Eye bolt inspection

Eye Bolt Inspection & Maintenance: A Pre-Use Checklist

Inspection helps identify obvious issues before an eye bolt is put into service. It does not replace a formal inspection program, competent-person review, manufacturer instructions or site safety procedures. The right interval and method depend on the application and responsible organization.

For product options, see our eye bolt range.

Look for visible damage

Deformation, cracks, severe wear, corrosion, damaged threads, unauthorized welding or modification and distorted eyes are reasons for concern. Any suspect component should be removed from use and assessed through the appropriate process.

Check the connection

The threaded connection, seating surface and mating component should be in suitable condition. Incomplete engagement, cross-threading or damaged receiving threads need attention before the assembly is used.

Keep records where required

For safety-sensitive work, site procedures may require identification, inspection records, quarantine processes and competent-person sign-off. Follow the project’s system and the equipment manufacturer’s guidance.

Replace rather than improvise

Do not alter an eye bolt to make it fit an unexpected application. If the existing part is not suitable, discuss a correct standard product or a custom fastener requirement.
