Eye bolts are often used in handling and lifting applications, so safe selection and use should never be treated as an afterthought. The following points are a procurement and planning guide; they do not replace competent engineering review, site procedures, training or the manufacturer’s instructions.

Match the component to the task
The load, direction of force, connection geometry and environment should be known before a component is chosen. A product intended for one configuration may not be appropriate for another. Confirm ratings, limitations and applicable standards from the relevant manufacturer documentation.
Check the installation
Correct thread engagement and proper seating are important. The receiving material, tapped-hole condition and contact surface can all affect the assembly. Damaged threads, poor alignment or makeshift spacers should be assessed rather than ignored.
Think about angle and movement
Lifting at an angle or applying side load can materially change the forces on a connection. If the load can rotate, shift or pull from an unexpected direction, this must be part of the application review. Never assume a vertical-load scenario represents a side-pull scenario.
Inspect before use
Look for deformation, cracks, corrosion, damaged threads, worn contact surfaces or evidence of unauthorized modification. Remove suspect components from service and follow the responsible person’s inspection process. For specialist requirements, ask about safety eye bolts or custom options.
