Buyers sometimes use ‘forged’ and ‘fabricated’ as broad labels, but product suitability depends on the complete specification. Geometry, material, manufacturing method, inspection needs and intended application should all be discussed where they are relevant to the project.

Start with the project requirement
If a drawing, standard or customer specification defines a particular manufacturing method or material, attach it to the enquiry. Do not assume the product name alone captures those requirements.
Focus on geometry and application
Dimensions, thread details, eye geometry, foundation geometry, material and finish determine the product that needs to be supplied. For lifting or load-bearing uses, the responsible technical team should also define the applicable performance and safety requirements.
Communicate documentation needs
If a project needs test certificates, inspection records, marking or other documentation, state this at enquiry stage. It is easier to plan requirements before manufacturing or dispatch.
