Foundation bolt types

Foundation Bolt Types: Anchor, J & L Bolt Overview

Foundation bolts anchor equipment, structures and fabricated components to concrete or masonry foundations. The required form depends on the connection design, foundation detail and installation sequence. Clear drawings are especially valuable because small dimensional differences can matter on site.

Anchor bolt requirements

‘Anchor bolt’ is a broad description for a fastener that connects a base plate, frame or machine to a foundation. Diameter, length, thread projection, embedment arrangement, material and finish should be defined by the project design.

J and L bolt forms

J and L bolts are named for their bent shapes. The bend geometry, leg length, thread length and overall length need to match the foundation drawing. Do not use a generic description alone when a project has a specific template or installation requirement.

Why drawings matter

A foundation bolt interacts with reinforcement, formwork, a base plate and installation tolerances. A drawing communicates more than a product name: it shows relative dimensions and details that a written description can miss.

Requesting a quotation

Send the drawing, type, diameter, total length, thread length, material, finish, quantity and delivery location. If the part is unusual, our custom fastener service can review it.
