Rigging Angle Basics: Why Load Direction Matters

The direction of force matters whenever an eye bolt or attachment point is part of a lifting arrangement. A product that is appropriate for one direction of load may not be appropriate for another. The actual rigging arrangement must be assessed by competent people using applicable procedures and manufacturer information.

Vertical and angled loading

A vertical pull and an angled pull are not the same condition. Angles can change forces within the rigging system and at the attachment point. Do not simplify a quotation request to a weight alone when the direction of pull is important.

Movement and alignment

A load that rotates, shifts or requires controlled alignment introduces more variables. The connected equipment, lifting method and attachment geometry should be reviewed as a complete system.

Get competent review
